Our nation is growing fatter and fatter. This is a fact, just look around at all the bellies and overweight people. We live in a fast paced nation and world. We are either working, on our way to work, running errands…well you get the point. We claim to have no time to cook or eat healthy and instead resort to fast food. Is there any healthy fast food out there? Well, I will dig into the negative aspects of fast food then talk about some fast food that is healthy weather it be the restaurant or certain items on a fast food restaurants menu.

These days fast food is regarded as a regular eating endeavor amongst the typical individual. Fast food is merely yummy, already cooked meals ready on the go. Fast food become so popular back in the 40′s with the invention called McDonalds, delicious food ready in minutes. Soon we have very similar restaurant operation opening up everywhere. Based on research, with the rise in popularity of fast food came the rise of extreme obesity and health concerns. Let me connect the two.

Fast food has zero of the healthy properties you need for lasting energy that your body depends on to thrive day-to-day. Fast food just feeds your immediate food cravings. To make sure fast food is cheap, the fast food items are made out of highly-processed ingredients to provide a longer shelf-life and to increase flavor. Fast food is modified from the authentic healthful form it originated as to a altered form that does not have any dietary benefit at all. For example, the last time you had chicken nuggets at McDonalds have you ever bit on a bone? The chicken is not even pure chicken but is some grinded up substance that has chicken in it and tastes like chicken.

It’s not only the calorie consumption in fast food that is harmful to your health and midsection, it’s the chemical preservatives such as artificial sweetners and MSG (monosodium glutamate) that are the most harmful. Artificial chemicals included with highly processed food damage your system’s cells. Man produced foods packed with pesticides, aspartame, margarine, and some other man made substances do not feed your body. If the body can’t make use of what we put in it you will gain body fat and decreased health.

A basic fast food chicken breast can easily consist of anything from altered corn starch to hydrolyzed corn gluten.  You say corn? Yes, look into for your self.  A fast food breast can contain more corn than chick, and this type of corn is used to fatten up live stock. The trouble with fastfood is the fact that it’s without any nutrients and packed with chemical substances not recognized by the body. If you haven’t seen the documentary about the man who ate McDonalds regularly check it out and pay special attention to the doctor tests.

So what we really want to know is are there healthy fast food item on their menu or fast food chains that are healthy. Well with the new health conscious craze there are items popping up in fast food restaurants, but you still must do you research. Many of the salads have just as many calories as a burger. There are some wraps and fruit options at some of the fast food chain that are actually somewhat healthy. Just read the nutrition facts before you assume you have found a healthy meal at a fast food restaurant. My favorite, if we can consider these fast food, is the low calorie sandwiches at Subway or the lean chicken meals at teriyaki restaurants. I will explore healthier fast food in future posts.
